The Henry “Hank” Sampson Memorial Award is given annually to an active Stillwater Rotary Club member who provides exceptional “service above self” to the Stillwater Rotary club in a given year.

The committee to decide on the annual recipient shall be the current club President, the most recent Past President and the President elect. The award is based on the following criteria:

• A Stillwater Rotary member in good standing
• A member who plays multiple significant roles in the club
• Demonstrates the qualities of “Service above Self”
• Has provided extraordinary service to the club in the current Rotary year

This award is named in memory of Henry “Hank” Sampson (1929-2008), who was a long-time community servant to the Stillwater Area. He was a Stillwater Rotarian for 44 years. At the time of his sudden death, Hank was the Chair of the Public Relations Committee, Club Historian and the Chair of the Stillwater Rotary Foundation. This award was created in 2008, the year of his death, in honor of his memory and lifetime commitment to the Rotary ideals.

This year’s recipient has been a member of our club for 8 years. During that time he’s actively participated on in a variety of club activities. He has an active family life and owns his own business which requires a significant amount of his time, which sometimes keeps him from Thursday club meetings. However, he is conscientious about his commitment to Stillwater Rotary and does not shirk from his membership responsibilities. He spends countless hours as our Treasurer. Not only does he manage our financials, he follows up with members who are behind in their dues payments, routinely offers to check on members that haven’t been to club meetings on a regular basis and manages the entire grant making process from receipt of applications to informing both successful and unsuccessful applicants.

He is very conscientious about his commitment to Stillwater Rotary, is always one of the first to volunteer to serve, contribute financially, or support the club activities in a variety of ways to honor his membership responsibilities. He has actively participated in the Sampler, attended almost all Board meetings since he became the Treasurer. As a result, he also has an attendance record in the 90% range (so far this year it is 98%) As club President, I have appreciated his dependability and follow through and his detailed attention to the club financials

His devotion and contributions to the club is significant and very well done, and we are proud to present the 2015 Hank Sampson memorial award to Keith Komro!
