2011 Hank Sampson Memorial Award Winner
Rotary first touch this year’s recipient in the 1950’s.  He received a Rotary Foundation Fellowship for Advanced International Study which made it possible for him to attend Diploma Imperial College, University of London.
His humble day in, day out service to Stillwater Rotary probably goes unnoticed to a lot of the club members.
He arrives early every Thursday to prepare the AV systems needed for the meeting and program.
He hides behind the camera while capturing photos of speakers, member inductions, club events and fundraisers.  This continues the work that Hank Sampson performed for our club for countless years as club historian.
He is a member of the ninth grade essay contest committee. This committee’s work culminates with a not-to-be-missed program each year where we meet and hear from the winning youth who have written about a hero in their lives who represents the Rotary ideals from the 4-way test.
He sponsored Murray Harpole, who joined our club earlier this year.
He’s made significant Paul Harris donations, including this year, qualifying him as a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.
Although he’s retired, he spends much of his time traveling within the US and internationally to train other educators.  He is extremely conscientious whenever he is unavailable to get things done and always plans for his own backup.    (Which is the reason we knew several weeks ago that he wouldn’t be attending the Presidents Picnic next week and we’re presenting the award today.)
For all of these reasons, we are proud to present the 2011 Hank Sampson memorial award to Ed Jones!
