At the close of each year, the Canvas Health Board of Directors, Leadership and Staff nominate individuals, organizations, and businesses that have gone above and beyond in the closing calendar year to support the programs and services of Canvas Health---offering hope and much more to members within our community. Thanks to the Stillwater Noon Rotary Club’s financial support at the 2014 Stillwater Sampler and the continued financial support to receive a District Rotary grant for our Homeless Youth Program, (plus all of you are just super cool, caring and engaged community-oriented people!) the above group nominated and chose the Stillwater Noon Rotary Club for our Distinguished Civic Action Award!
The award recognizes notable civic and community contributions on the part of individuals or organizations who have completed a project, in the course of the year that had a positive impact locally or regionally. Through their efforts, they furthered the welfare and/or improved the quality of life of those in need in their communities. They have inspired others to become active in the civic community to embody the mission of Canvas Health to bring hope, healing and recovery to people’s lives.
On Thursday, April 16th Canvas Health is hosting a special donor, volunteer and award recognition event called The Celebration of Hope. The event will be held from 6pm to 8pm at the Lake Elmo Inn Event Center. We will be sending out formal invitations in Feb 2015, but I wanted to send you this announcement email so you can share with club members as we all ring in the New Year. We hope many Stillwater Noon club members can “save the date” to attend the award recognition event.
Congratulations and all my best in the New Year,
Leanne Woodland Chief Development Officer | Canvas Health
Just wanted to introduce myself for all the new members and re-introduce myself to all the current members. My name is Keith Komro, I have been a member of Rotary since Aug 2007, and have been treasurer since Aug 2009 – I believe is when I took over the treasurer role. I am filling the shoes of two very long-standing Rotarian treasurers, Tom Gerson & Susan (Suzi) Smith. I was first introduced to Rotary by Suzi when I first began working with her firm. I had not a clue what Rotary was, I remember her bringing me along as guest one of those first times and she pre-empted me by saying don’t worry you don’t have to sing. In my mind I was thinking did she just say “sing” – what am I getting myself into. But now I look back on what our club has done locally and overseas, I look around at my fellow Rotarians and I couldn’t imagine myself not being a part of Rotary. These experiences are only possible by sustaining membership in our great club.
Something I/we have all experienced over the past few years is a decline in membership. One of my jobs as treasurer is to send out those pesky quarterly statements (which unfortunately I have been sending fewer of) – I would love to start sending more of these out each quarter as we grow our membership. So please keep this in the back of your mind next time you receive an email or invoice from me.
On a more pleasant note, another one of my jobs is cutting the checks for all our Grant recipients from the proceeds of our Sampler Fundraising Event (just as a side note – all sampler proceeds are used for the Grant process and none of the funds are used for operating expenses of the club). I just wanted to remind everyone that the Grant application is available on our website @ http://portal.clubrunner.ca/5639 bottom right corner of our website. Please make sure to pass this along to anyone who may be interested in applying for a grant. FYI – we have already started to receive applications.
Thank you everyone for all the club experiences and letting me be a part of a great and rewarding organization!! I look forward to becoming a longstanding Rotarian.
Have you sold your raffle and event tickets yet? Be sure to turn in the raffle ticket money (and unsold raffle tickets) to Jerry Maier and event ticket money (and unsold event tickets) to Curt Geissler.
Have you donated a bottle of wine for the Wall of Wine auction, or a silent or live auction item? Wine can be brought to the meeting and auction items should discussed with Scott Mercer.
Do you or someone you know want to attend the Sampler but are short on funds to do so? Please talk to Peter Pulga, we have donated tickets to provide to people who would like to attend but can't afford to do so right now.
Contact information for all of the above is available at www.stillwaterrotary.org . Login is your name, no spaces and password is your spouse's name, no spaces.
Never thought about going to Brazil? Never been on a Rotary Friendship Exchange? Well the time is NOW! There is an exchange going to Brazil from June 10-19th this summer. I can personally attest it will be the experience of your life. My wife and I went on this exchange a couple of years ago and we still stay in contact with many of the people we met in Brazil. In fact, one of the daughters of a host family stayed with us for two weeks in 2013 and she will be back to visit next month. You will see fabulous beaches and mountains and meet fabulous people. The food is some of the best I've had anywhere and the beer, well it was just eh best ever. Add on a couple of days and see Igasu Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world. Well, ok, it should be. If you have any interest, please talk to me and I can give you all the details. Where else can you go on a luxury vacation for the price of an airline ticket and some minor incidental expenses. Almost all, if not all, of your lodging and food will be provided by your friends you haven't met yet. It is the experience of a lifetime!
