North/East metro briefs: Molly O'Rourke gets high marks for leadership of Washington County
Administrator Molly O’Rourke has received high marks for her skill in leading the Washington County government workforce, said Commissioner Lisa Weik, chairwoman of the County Board. The board conducted a closed-door annual review of O’Rourke’s performance on April 4.

Weik said the board applauded O’Rourke for building relationships and partnerships across the county and in the community. Commissioners also commended her for maintaining the county’s high bond rating, for positive responses received on the county’s residential survey, and for efficiencies she has introduced to county business practices.
Also noted was O’Rourke’s respect for others, her ability to hear all sides of a situation and the strong leadership she provides to the county’s department managers.
AS you know, Stillwater Rotary has been tutoring students in reading at Lake Elmo Elementary for a year and a half. During that time, we had a designated person to act as the connection between our club and the school. With Mary now not a club member, we are looking for someone willing to be the ‘point person’ for the club, the tutors, and the district’s lead curriculum staff. This job includes determining the logistics of the tutoring (based on the staff’s recommendations), recruiting tutors, scheduling their training, and promoting the value of the project to the entire club. Scheduling is handled primarily by the staff at the school and you would not necessarily need to commit to a regular tutoring gig yourself.
So, we need someone to raise their hand and say “I’ll do it”!
If you have questions please feel free to contact either Rex Cattanach or Mary Planten-Krell. Thanks!
About a third of our members have 100% attendance. We know it can be difficult to make it to our meeting every week; you can receive make-ups for meetings in two ways:
1. Attend another Rotary meeting. Whether you are on vacation or in a different part of the Cities, you can attend any club. You will pay for your meal there and receive a make-up slip. Bring that to club, and you will receive a credit on your next bill as well as an attendance make-up.
2. Participate in a Rotary service event such as bell ringing, Hockey Day Rotary tent volunteer, Lake Elmo tutoring, STRIVE program, etc. Come to club and make a note that you volunteered, and you will receive an attendance credit.
This is a great way to showcase what our members are doing and allow you to work toward a 100% attendance pin at the annual picnic in June.
