We are fortunate to celebrate the long-term Rotary club anniversaries of Lyle Anderson (2/15/68) at 48 years and Erv Neff (2/20/78) at 38 years. Ted Wegleitner has been a member for one year and his badge was "stripped."
Club challenge: 2 desserts similar to the concept of two martinis, without the alcohol.
One – any grand dessert of your choice; could involve homemade ice cream, cake, pie, pudding, tarts, or any combination. It can be made of any scrumptous makings!
Second one – must be a “healthy” dessert. Made from what you would consider to be health-focused makings, and gluten free.
We have one rule established so far, that being you may not use or modify any recipe from a restaurant! With both the Lowell Inn and The Lake Elmo Inn famous for desserts please make certain they do not influence your members’ entries with something from their menu or one that closely resembles an item from their menu.
Judges – again each club will provide an unbiased judge as in previous years. However, this year we would like it to be a leader from the Public Safety/Service area. We wanted to do this since Rotary is a humanitarian service organization! We are contacting the Director of Public Safety who is a combination police, fire, and EMS “chief”. You could consider the Washington County Sheriff, a fire or police chief, etc.
Last week's program was Washington County Sheriff Bill Hutton. He is a 32 year veteran of law enforcement and was elected Sheriff in 2006. He gave us an update on "stuff" like body cameras, use of technology, drones, and inmate care.
Dr. David Palmer has just returned from a trip to Arusha, Tanzania and gave a quick update during for the Sargeant at Arms. Our club has had a long involvement with the Selian Lutheran Hospital run by Dr. Mark Jacobson. Dr. Palmer spent his time doing surgeries -- for these patients it was a once-in-a lifetime chance to receive treatment for debilitating, even crippling conditions they had for years.
Thanks again to everyone -- A successful Stillwater Sampler means we are looking forward to distributing funds to other non-profit organizations in addition to our Music Means More spotlight program!
Grant applications will be accepted this year through March 1, 2016.
Congratulations to our Rotary Exchange Student, Ayane, for completing a season with the Stillwater Nordic Ski team!
